A Game of Many Trades

One of the many reasons that I love being able to homeschool my kiddos is that they have a lot of free time to play together and with friends that they otherwise wouldn't have.  They are spending quality time learning how to deal with different situations and inventing new games to play.

This Monopoly money has been so many different things.  It has been used for the game, of course, and has been used to purchase goods, services and food from inside our home.  We have used it for many of math lessons also.  We have bought snack & lunch with it, placed to go orders and paid for Spy services from Brogan's Spy Agency (yes, she helps me keep an eye on her brothers!).  Somehow, I'm not quite sure how, Brogn always ends up being the conroller of the money.  This hasn't been a controversial issue, yet, but Iam sensing it soon will be.  Christian just wasn't a big fan of having to pay for his gun today!  We can only wait to see what it will be next.

Folk Festival

Every year Huntsville hosts the Sam Houston Folk Festival.  Our family loves to go!  There are people walking around in costumes from the 1800s and the kids get to see people making pottery, glass bowls, soap and much more with tools used in that time period.  They also get to take a look at guns and knives and see how a real cannon operates.  It is always a lot of fun and this year was no exception!

Just an example of some the demonstrations

The souvenier of choice is always a gun.  But, of course, that is the only way we can be soldiers or cowboys!

Making marble art is always fun!

The festival is held at the Sam Houston Duck Pond.  We go there often just to feed the ducks but we have never seen a family of ducks until today!  The kids were so excited to see them and the ducks acted like we were not even there...

Scary Thing

I was so happy to see Jeremy pull in to the driveway to today.  Only, it wasn't Jeremy pulling in!  I did  doubletake when I notced him in the passenger seat and low ad behold, Joshua was driving.  YIKES!!  Not yikes that he is driving (well, maybe kinda)  but, yikes that I really have a kid that is old enough to be learning how to drive.  What is up with THAT?!  Driving on your lap and driving on his own...who would have thought it would have changed so fast?  He sure looks pretty cool though.  To bad that won't be his ride!

More Cinderella

Well, it is coming together!

Brogan is having a blast being a part of the cast of Cinderella at the Community Theatre here in Huntsville!  The production is coming together beautifully and the younger girls are just in love with Cinderella, Chelsea.  They think she fits the role perfectly!  It will be so neat to finally see everything put together into one show.  You just MUST come watch!!
