Today we started a new science experiment for our Living Creatures of the 5th Day curriculum we are using. Our experiment was to see which kind of bird food the birds in our yard prefer. So, to do this we took a trip to Wal-Mart and Christian, Brogan and Codey each got to pick which bird food they thought the birds would like best. We came home with Golden Finch Food (Brogan), Colorful Bird Blend (Codey), and Wild Bird Seed (Christian).
Next, we made bird feeders out of milk jugs by cutting a piece out of the middle. It turned out to be really easy.
After making the bird feeders we filled each feeder with 2 soup cans of the selected feed and drew a line at our starting point.
Finally, we hung them in a tree which is easily visible from our kitchen window.
Now, all we have to do is check each day for 14 days to see which one the birds like best!!
